Quick & Classy Christmas Cards: "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit--Part 4

Here's the last installment of the cards that I made from the "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit.  I love that the Simply Scrappin' Kits are so versatile.  Maybe they should be called the Perfect Paper Craftin' Kit instead!  I think lots of people overlook these kits because they aren't scrapbookers, so if that's you, YOU NEED to check out these kits & imagine the possibilities!

3x6-2

3x6-3  3x6-4

I hope that you have enjoyed these cards!  If you are interested in the handout I made for my class, just leave me a comment or send me an email, I'd be happy to send it your way!  These cards are sooo easy to make, but a little guidance & measurements sure makes it even easier!!

Have a fabulous weekend!   Erin

PS...Attention Oklahoma City Metro Area Stampin' Friends:  Next Saturday, November 22nd, from 9:30am-2:30pm, I will have a table at the Holiday Happenings Gift & Craft Show at the Covenant Life Assembly Activiy Center on 207 S. Howard in Moore, OK (SW 1st St. & Howard--North East from the Moore Library).  I hope to see you there!

Quick & Classy Christmas Cards: "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit--Part 3

Here's the 3rd installment of the cards I made using the "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit.  These cards measure 3x6 when finished.

3x6        3x6-1

Hmmm?  Do these look a little familiar to you??  They should if you have already seen my other cards from this kit.  I told you I like to keep things simple...I used the same card designs on my 3x6 cards as I did on my 4x4 cards...just stretched them a little.  I think it worked out just fine!

Tomorrow I'll have the last installment of the cards that I made from this kit...I only used one kit to make both sets of cards!! And I still have some DSP & Adhesive die cuts, so maybe I'll have to make some cute bags/boxes to put these cards in!  Enjoy...Erin

4x4-2  4x4-4    4x4-5

I hope you enjoyed these. They were VERY easy to make!!  Let me know if you have any questions.  Tomorrow, I'll post some of the 3x6 cards I made.  Fun!!  Erin

Quick & Classy Christmas Cards--"I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit

This post was supposed to show some of the cool cards we made tonight at my Quick & Classy Christmas Card Class featuring the "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit....BUT, unfortunately, everyone else in the Stampin' Up! world is also using the "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit, and they are backordered...boo-hoo!  I really hated to have to call my customers to postpone the class, BUT this is the first time in my almost 10 years as a demonstrator that this has happened...thank goodness.  Thankfully, I made the cards a couple of weeks ago, so I can still share with some of the cards I made that we would have been making tonight!  Whew!

I LOVE the "I Wish" Simply Scrappin' Kit, and after seeing Patty Bennett's cool idea for the "Tie the Knot" Simply Scrappin' Kit as shown HERE, I knew that I could apply the same principles to this kit...as I also did for the Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit that you can see HERE and HERE .  I am offering my class attendees two options:  4x4 or 3x6.  I'll be showing you the first 2 sets of 4x4 cards today.  One of my philosophies is "when you find a card layout you like, use it & use it & use it!?  So you will notice that each set of cards is the same layout with different cardstock, DSP, ribbon & adhesive die cuts.  It definitely helps things to go more smoothly in a class!

4x4    4x4-1

I hope you enjoyed these, I'll have the other 4x4 cards to show you tomorrow!  Remember, you don't need a special envelope for these because they fit nicely into Stampin' Up!'s medium envelopes (Or a standard invitation size envelope if you are getting them elsewhere!)  See you tomorrow!  Erin

Bali Breeze Mini Clipboard

Erin Mini Clipboard

Do you ever have a project that you start & then somehow you get interrupted & then the project just sits, unfinished...for months, and then one day, you decide that you are tired of tripping over it & shuffling it from one spot to another??  No?  This doesn't happen to you?  I'm the only one who does this?  I doubt it!  :)  Anyway, I started making this 4x4 clipboard (from Oriental Trading) for myself & 3 others for some buddies at Leadership this past January.  I didn't get it finished in time to take, so I told myself that I'd get it done just as soon as I got home & mail it out ASAP...yeah, right!  Well,  I did finally finish the clipboards & got them delivered to their recipients at CONVENTION...uh, 7 1/2 months later!  YIKES!  And now the Bali Breeze DSP & Groovy Guava Ribbon are not discontinued.  Oh Well!  Better late than never!  I now have it hangingon it on my wall with my other clipboard projects.

Can one really have too many clipboards or post-it note holders??  I think not!  Have a great day!  Erin

Season of Friendship Card

RHR Tree

This was the card I made for the recent Control Freaks Holiday Mini Swap.  (I haven't taken pictures of the OH-SO-FABULOUS cards I received, but I'll be doing that soon & then I'll post them for your viewing pleasure.)

Supplies:  Season of Friendship--Holiday Mini

Ink:  ALL the In Colors, Chocolate Chip Craft Ink, Versamark

Cardstock:  Whisper White, Chocolate Chip Textured, Riding Hood Red Textured/Kiwi Kiss Textured

Extra:  Silver Brads, Stampin' Dimensionals, Crystal Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy, Paper Snips

I know you must be wondering..."Gee, Erin, how did you get those popped-up images stamped with In Colors to be embossed?  I thought they only came as Classic Ink."  Well, you are right about the In Colors only coming in Classic Ink.  I'll tell you what I did.  At first I thought I could go back with the Versamark & stamp on top of the images...uh, NO!  I just couldn't line them up all that great.  So, I ended up stamping up a whole sections of Whisper White cardstock with tons of flowers, birds, leaves, & snowflakes.  Then, I "smooshed" my Versamark Pad over the piece of cardstock (I was working with long strips, not whole sheets of CS), dumped on the embossing powder, tapped off the excess & then got out the Heat Tool.  Next I "got" to cut out each of those little shapes!  Thank goodness for the Paper Snips!  I also cut the Stampin' Dimensionals in half to place under each popped up image....the tree is also embossed.

Here are some other views & my source of inspiration...a trash can (it's true...keep scrolling!):

RHR Tree1  Kiwi Tree Kiwi Tree1  My Inspiration

This "adorable" trash can is sitting just outside of the Science Museum in Oklahoma City.  When the Holiday Mini first came out, I knew I just had to make a card like it.  I'm sure you could tell by now that I'm mainly inspired by other people's art work, so I was thrilled that I found something inspiring while I was out & about!  By the way, that's my 3 year-old, Maddy, rubbing her hands all over the trash can...NICE!

Here's to finding inspiration in the most unsuspecting places!  Erin

Purse in a Box & VERY Simple Cards

A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to have Uncle Doug (my husband's brother) & the Cousins come to visit us from Indiana.  Hattie, their eldest daughter, is 14 & so sweet & mature for her age.  My kids had a fun time playing with Cousin Hattie & so did I.  We were able to go out for a girls night!  We went out for manicures/pedicures & then we ate at The Cheesecake Factory!  YUM!! We worked on a little project over the course of the week while they were here.  Hattie made the bag, but we ran out of time to make the cards together, so I made her some VERY simple cards to go in the bag.  The Designer Series Paper, Blue Bayou Double Stitched Ribbon & Ink, & even a few of the stamps we used are now retired...boo-hoo.

Hattie's Purse

I found this idea HERE on Andrea Walford's blog.  We kept the ribbons really long so that she wouldn't have to take the ribbon out of the holes (& risk fraying the edges...EEK!) when she wanted to take a card out.  She can just open it wide up keeping the ribbon through both holes & take her card out.

Here are the VERY simple cards:

Simply Scrappin' Club: Pina Colada Part 4 of 4

Well, today is my last installment from my Simply Scrappin' Club using the Pina Colada SSK.  Boo-Hoo, I wish I had more pages to show you from this COOL kit!

Layout 4e

I scraplifted this layout & title block straight from the product insert from the Simply Scrappin' Kit.

Layout 4-title

Here's what the layout looked like before I added the photos, title & embellishments:

Layout 4

For this layout you will need the following items from the Simply Scrappin' Kit:

1--Old Olive Textured Card Stock 12x12--Trim 2--2 1/2x12 pieces and Trim 2--1x12 pieces--you can use the left over from the first layout for some of this.

Left over pieces of both styles of DSP--Punch 8 circles from each of the DSP papers (for a total of 16 circles) using the NEW Stampin' Up! 1 3/4 inch Circle Punch.

Border Strips:  So Saffron Dots and Multi-Colored Stripes

EXTRA not in kit:  2--Chocolate Chip 12x12 Cardstock and 1 piece Tangerine Tango Cardstock trimmed to 3x5.5 & Corner Rounder Punch for both the Tangerine CS & the Die cut for the title.  I'm also thinking, I might go back & round the corners on my photos, too!

Here's how to assemble the pages:

1.  Attach 2 1/2x12 Old Olive strips 1/4 down from the top of the Chocolate Chip Cardstock.

2.  Attach 1x12 Old Olive strips 1/4 inch up from the bottom of the Chocolate Chip Cardstock & add the So Saffron Border strips directly above.

3.  To place the 1 3/4 inch DSP circles, you can go 2 ways...to measure or not to measure.  If you don't want to measure & you are very good at "eyeballing" things, place one circle in the center & work your way to either side.  You will have a little bit of hangover on each side to trim.

However, if you are the type that needs to be exactly sure that everything is lined up & centered, then you can do it like I did it! :)  Note, this is not the easy way!

a.  Draw measuring lines on each 2 1/2x12 piece of Old Olive Card Stock:

    1.  Find the Center:  First draw line across the center at 1 1/4 inches and then down at 6 inches.

    2.  Lightly draw bottom edge line at 3/8 of an inch from the bottom across  to keep those circles in line...you can draw another line 3/8 of an inch from the top across, if you feel like you need more control over those circles.  Remember to draw lightly & with a pencil that erases well.

b.  Placing the circles.  Starting in the center attach your circle...noting those lovely lines that you just drew.  Then add 3 circles to each side.  I did mine in a pattern, but you can do what floats your boat!  There will be a little to trim off of each circle that is on each end.  Voila!  A lovely row of circles!  Now, don't forget to erase the pencil lines.

With whatever option you choose, finish them up by placing the Multi-stripe border strip across the center.  Embellish as desired.

Here's the finished page & the 3 other pages as a re-cap!

Layout 4e  Layout 1b  Layout 2b  Layout 3b

I hope you all have enjoyed my adventure with the Pina Colada SSK!  Something that I've known for awhile, but that became VERY evident with these pages, is that I am a VERY linear scrapbooker.  Although I can take some pretty good pictures, my husband, Steven, took most of the photos you've seen on these pages & HE gets a little cranky when I start cropping them into different shapes or if there are only 1-2 pictures per page...hence the need to be linear & cram lots of photos on the pages.  He really liked the all the pages I made with this kit & didn't even crab about the fact that I did trim some of them...albeit into squares or smaller rectangles.

Have a super weekend!!  We're getting ready to do a little bonfire/cookout tonight.  It's in the upper 70s today in Oklahoma City...feels a little weird to be so warm on the first day of November.  So we are making the most of the beautiful weather with some hot dogs, chips & smores!  YUM!  Erin

Simply Scrappin' Club--Pina Colada Part 3 of 4

I know this isn't a cute Halloween page or candy idea, but it's SCARY that I've actually posted for 4 days in a row!!  Oohh!! Ahhh!!  Okay, on with the show:

Layout 3b

I was able to scraplift this layout from "Alesha" at Split Coast Stampers.  You can find the original layout idea done with the Summer Days SSK by "Alesha" on SCS HERE .

The title block below was inspired by one of the scrapbook pages on the product insert for the Pina Colada SSK...THANKS Stampin' Up! for the great idea!  It was a little tricky getting all the sticky little pieces in just the right spots, but I think the end result was worth it!

Layout 3-title

Here's what the pages looked like before I added the title, my photo & other embellishments.

Layout 3

Here's what I used from the Pina Colada SSK to make these pages:

2--Tangerine Tango 12x12 Textured Cardstock

1--So Saffron Dots/Old Olive Floral DSP---might be able to use some of the scraps from the last set of pages---Trim 2--1x12 So Saffron pieces and Trim 2--2x12 Old Olive Floral pieces

Border Strips--Old Olive with white dotted twirly lines; Riding Hood Red Stripes; Multi-color Flowers

EXTRA not in kit--2 pieces 8.5x11 Old Olive trimmed down to 8.5x8.5...You'll need the other Old Olive from the kit for the final layout, SO DON'T TRIM UP THE OLD OLIVE TEXTURED CARDSTOCK FOR THIS SET OF PAGES OR YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT SIZE OLD OLIVE TEXTURED CARDSTOCK FOR THE LAST SET OF PAGES!!  Get it?  Got it?  Good!

Here's how to assemble the page:  Starting at the bottom of the Tangerine Tango Card Stock, place Old Olive Border Strip approximately 1/4 inch off the bottom edge.  Next attach the So Saffron Dots DSP.  Then the Riding Hood Red Border Strips followed by the Multi-Color Flowers Border Strips. Finish up the strips with the Old Olive Floral DSP.

Place Old Olive 8.5x8.5 pieces 1/4 inch from top of Tangerine Tango Card Stock flush with inner edges.  Voila!  You're done!  Wasn't that so easy?  Add title, photos & decorate as you please.

Here's an alternate view of the layout:

I hope you have been enjoying seeing the fun pages you can make with the Pina Colada Simply Scrappin' Kit....Erin

Simply Scrappin' Club--Pina Colada #2 of 4

Layout 2b

Here's the 2nd-2 page layout that we made at my NEW Simply Scrappin' Club.  I scraplifted this fabulous layout HERE by Nancy Kliewer.  You can look at her SWEET blog HERE.  Nancy made her pages before Stampin' Up! came out with the Scallop Edge Punch, so I can't even imagine how tricky it must have been for her to make the scalloped edges.

Layout 2-title

By the way, "Papillion" is the name of the town we lived in in Nebraska.  Think "million" when you pronounce "Papillion".  I think it's the French word for "butterfly", but of course when they say it, it would sound so nice!!

Here's how it looked before I added the photos, title & decorative elements.

Layout 2

Here's what you'll need from your Pina Colada SSK to make these pages:

2--Riding Hood Red 12x12x Textured Cardstock Pieces

2--So Saffron Dots DSP Sheets--taking note of the direction of the dots, cut 1 piece: 9x9.5 and cut 1 piece 9x10...IF for some reason, you don't cut them both going the same direction, do not despair, most of the dots will be covered by photos...it's okay...really!!

1--Multi Stripes DSP Sheet PLUS left over 1x12 piece from yesterday's pages.

2--Tangerine Tango Border Strips with the Scalloped Edge

Extra Not In Kit:  Whisper White 12 x12---trim 2--1 1/4 x 12 strips and trim 1--1 3/8 x12 strip.  Next use Scallop Edge Punch (or scallop edge scissors) & scallop one edge on each of the three strips.

To Assemble Pages:

1.  Attach  trimmed So Saffron Dots DSP pieces to Riding Hood Red 12x12, 1 1/4 inches from the top.  The 9x9.5 piece goes on the LEFT page...with the 9 inch edge completely flush with the right hand edge of the cardstock.  The 9x10 piece goes on the RIGHT page...with the 9 inch edge completely flush with the left hand edge of the cardstock.

2.  Attach Tangerine Tango Scalloped Border Strips to opposite outside edges of each page.  The scalloped edge was approximately 1/8 of an inch from the edge making the straight edge approximately 1/2 inch from the edge.

3.  Adhere 1x12 inch Multistripe DSP on top of the 1 3/8 x12 piece you have already scalloped.  The scalloped edge will just barely peek out from behind the Multistripes DSP.  Now attach this piece next to the Tangerine Tango Border Strip on the RIGHT hand page with the white scallops on the LEFT side of the Multistripe DSP.

Now we come to the really "fun" part of the page.  I know there must be a simpler way to accomplish this, but this is what I did to create the curve & have the scallops peeking out from underneath.  Let me know if you know of the easier way! :)  Just remember, you are only doing this for ONE scrapbook page, it's not like I'm asking you to do this on 100 pages!

4.  To get the curved edge, I placed a small oval casserole dish on my Multistripes DSP.  I measured the outer edges to make sure they would be approximately the same.  They were about 5 3/4 inches from the edge of the paper.  The center of the dish is approximately 2 1/8 from the edge of the center of the paper.  I then used a pencil to lightly draw the curved edge & trimmed it out...does that make sense??  NO?  See the photo below:

Layout 2-Curve1

5.  In order to get the scallops to bend, you have to do a little bit of tedious scissoring, but it's soooo worth it!!  I used my Paper Snips to cut from the bottom straight edge up to about 1/8 from "valley" between the scallops.  I trimmed one whole 12 inch strip, plus approximately 4-5 inches of the second strip.  You can already see how the strips are curving just from being cut.  See the photos below (you can click on any of the photos to get a larger picture):

Layout 2-Curve2  Layout 2-Curve3

6.  Now you "get" to attach the scallop edge to the DSP.  With the Tangerine Tango Floral DSP side showing, place a generous amount of your Dotto Adhesive along the ENTIRE CURVED EDGE...don't skimp!  What I like about the Dotto Adhesive (aka Hermafix) is that it's strong enough to hold your scrapbook page elements together, but it's also not soooo sticky that you can't move things you have previously adhered...which comes in to play big time with putting this scallop edge down on the DSP.  Starting at one edge at about the 3rd or 4th scallop in, start working your way around the curve.  I think when I did it, I worked mainly from the back edge, putting the scallop down so I just couldn't see the DSP showing in the "valley".  12 inches will not cover the entire curve.  That's why I had you cut a little bit into the other scallop strip.  Once you've covered the entire curve.  Trim off excess following the straight edge of the DSP and attach to the left side of the RIGHT page next to the Tangerine Tango Border Strip.  See the photos below.

Layout 2-curve4  Layout 2-curve5  Layout 2-curve6

Layout 2b

Ta-Dah!!  You did it!!  Whew!!  Now, isn't that just the cutest page ever??  Since this post is so ridiculously long, I thought I'd re-post the completed pages, so you don't have to scroll back up to the top.

Happy Scrapping...Erin

PS...Remember, you can adapt this layout to any colors & papers that you already have!
